Languages, engines and prepared models

Four language choices

The application language controls menus and labels. The transcription language controls speech recognition. A translation language is used when translation is enabled. An AI output language belongs to the selected prompt or report task. These are separate settings.

The interface and Help support English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Language support for an engine depends on that engine and the device's capabilities.

Choose a transcription engine

Open Settings → Speech Recognition. SenseVoice is a local engine. Apple on-device speech is available only when the operating system and selected language support it. Settings show availability and preparation status; download the selected Apple language model before recording if requested. German, French, Italian and Spanish use the Apple on-device transcription path.

Apple's newer on-device speech and Apple Intelligence text analysis require iPadOS 26 or later and their additional runtime conditions. Supported language, device eligibility, region, enabled settings and downloaded models still matter.

Choose an analysis service

For Apple Intelligence, check its availability in Settings. For an external service, choose the provider, enter your own API key and select a supported model. Provider availability and fees can change. A configured external provider does not replace the local transcription engine.

If a model is unavailable

Read the exact availability message. Check system version, language support, available storage and model preparation. Use another supported engine or service while preparation is incomplete. Help itself remains available without downloading any model.
